Joanne Walsh graduated with a MSc in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Limerick. She has gained clinical experience in a variety of settings including primary care community clinics, disability services, nursing homes, intellectual disability settings and schools. Prior to completing her studies in Speech and Language Therapy Joanne has added experience working with children with autistic spectrum disorders. She has worked with children, adolescents and adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. These include developmental speech and language disorders/delays, dysfluency, communication difficulties associated with cognitive impairment, apraxia of speech, social skills and swallowing disorders. <br /> Joanne has completed research relating to the patients’ experience of using thickened liquids post stroke. She is co-author of the publication “Plugging the patient evidence gap: what patients with swallowing disorders post-stroke say about thickened liquids”, published in the International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders in January 2018. Joanne also completed research related to Developmental Language Disorder, and co-developed a care-pathway for assessment and treatment for CHO Area 5 (South Tipperary, Carlow/Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford). Joanne is registered with CORU and the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists, and is dedicated to continuing professional development. She has completed Lámh Module 1 training.
