Deirdre Kiernan graduated from Trinity College, in 1981. She founded the SpeechClinic in 1992. Previously she worked in a variety of settings in the HSE before being promoted to the position of manager of Speech and Language Therapy Services in Limerick, where she was involved in setting up the first language classes in the region for school age children with Developmental Language Disorder. She has also provided services to Enable Ireland. Deirdre specialises in the treatment of speech and language disorders, literacy (dyslexia), voice and stammering (adults and children). She is a member of the Special Interest Group in Language Disorders. She is a trained tutor in parenting skills and behaviour management in children. She gives courses to teachers on Speech, Language and Literacy. Deirdre is committed to continuing professional development and has attended numerous courses including; Hanen “It Takes Two to Talk”, Shape Coding for Teaching Grammar, Psycholinguistic Assessment and Treatment of Speech Disorders, Caroline Bowen’s Speech Sound Disorders, Lidcombe Programme for young children who stammer, Fun with fluency Programme for children of all ages who stammer Personal Construct Therapy for adult stammering, WordsWorth Literacy Programme for children and adults with reading disorders/dyslexia, Tony Attwood’s Autism Seminar.
