Danica Tan
Danica obtained her Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology from the National University of Singapore and has been working in pediatric settings since her graduation. As part of her graduate training, she obtained clinical experience working with children and adults at a school for children with special needs and restructured hospitals. She also completed a thesis on “Oral Narratives of English-Dominant Singaporean Preschoolers”, which provides preliminary normative data for clinicians to assess preschoolers who are at risk of language impairment. Prior to her master degree, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences (Honours) from National University of Singapore. Her previous work experience included working as a clinical research coordinator for a year in a restructured hospital providing care and support to patients with cancer who are involved in clinical trials. During this period, she also went for observations and voluntary work at restructured hospitals and voluntary welfare organisations such as Thye Hwa Kwan Children’s Therapy Centre, where she saw how speech-language pathologists work together with other professionals like occupational therapists to enhance a child’s learning experience in therapy sessions. She has a keen interest working with children with special needs, particularly children with language impairment and autism spectrum disorders. She strongly believes that working together with the child’s parents and other professionals will maximise the child’s strengths and uncover the full potential that every child possesses.
