Catherine Haugh
Catherine Haugh graduated with an MSc First Class Honours in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Limerick. She has gained experience in a range of settings including H.S.E. primary care community clinics, intellectual disability settings, acute care hospital and an adult rehabilitation setting. Catherine also had the unique opportunity of completing a clinical placement in a UK school setting, dedicated to supporting children and adolescents with specific language impairment. She has developed clinical skills necessary for the holistic management of a variety of communication and swallowing difficulties in children, adolescents and adults. These include developmental speech and language delays and disorders, voice disorders, aphasia, motor speech disorders and dysphagia particularly associated with stroke, head and neck cancer and progressive neurological disorders including dementia, Parkinson’s disease and Motor Neuron Disease. Populations she has worked with include intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, post stroke, head and neck cancer and individuals with progressive neurological disorders. Catherine also has experience in parent and staff training. Catherine is dysphagia qualified and completed research relating to the feasibility of implementing a free water protocol for thin liquid aspiration in an acute geriatric setting. <br /> Prior to completing speech and language therapy training, Catherine completed a BSc in Biomedical, Health and Life Sciences providing her with unique background knowledge. Catherine is committed to developing her clinical skills through continued professional development. She has completed Lámh Module 1 training. Catherine is a member of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists and was an active member of the student committee for her second academic year.
